Meet PHRI Founder - FIU's own Dr. Purnima Madhivanan

Dr. Purnima Madhivanan (M.D., M.P.H., Ph.D.) is an Associate Professor of Epidemiology at the Robert Stempel College of Public Health at Florida International University (FIU). She is the founder and Director of Public Health Research Institute of India (PHRI) in Mysore. Dr. Madhivanan serves as an advisor to a number of state, non-profit, and governmental research organizations. She was awarded the prestigious International Leadership Award from the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation for her work on prevention of mother-to-child-transmission of HIV. Her current research focuses on health inequities and women’s health across their lifespans.

Prior to joining the faculty at FIU, she completed her medical training in India. She then earned her Masters in Public Health and Doctorate in Epidemiology at the University of California- Berkeley.

About Me

My name is Jeanna. I am currently a Master of Public Health (MPH) student concentrating in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention at Florida International University in Miami,FL. My passion is Maternal and Child Health and this summer I had the amazing opportunity to travel to India to conduct research on post-natal depression in the rural villages of Mysore District as an intern at the Public Health Research Institute of India.
