About Me

Hello! My name is Jeanna. I’m Haitian - American born in Miami, FL. I am currently a Master of Public Health (MPH) student concentrating in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention at Florida International University in Miami. My passion is Maternal and Child Health and this summer I had an amazing opportunity to travel to India to conduct research on postnatal depression among women in the rural villages of Mysore District as an intern at the Public Health Research Institute of India.

When I'm not studying, I enjoy spending time with my family/friends, photography and cooking!

As the first person in my family to pursue post-secondary education, I know firsthand the challenges that first-generation college students face. In this blog, you will read how I overcame these challenges as an undergraduate and now as a current graduate student and how this study abroad opportunity changed my life and solidified my motivation to pursue a career in medicine and global health. I hope you enjoy reading about my experience learning and living in India: Miami meets Mysore!
